Nourishment of the Soul: “Avoid duplicity, that is, do not let your heart be divided between attachment to God and attachment to earthly things, ‘You cannot serve God and mammon’ (Mt. 6:24); cling to God alone, put your trust in Him alone; for the Devil, by inciting us to duplicity, seeks himself to gain possession of our heart, which is single and indivisible.” — St. John of Kronstadt

Communion: We invite you to receive the Holy Eucharist if you are an Orthodox Christian who has prepared yourself through fasting, prayer, and recent confession.  If you are not Orthodox, or are Orthodox but have not prepared, we invite you to receive a piece of the blessed bread in the wooden bowls held by the altar servers at the front of the church.

Communion Line: The choir goes first in both lines so members may continue ministering through music during communion. Little Lambs Sunday School follows. The ushers then assist each row from front to back. Those in the overflow behind the choir may follow adjacent rows.

Myrrh Bearers’ pitch-in scheduled for Friday, July 11th: All women in the church are invited to share cool summer salads, fruit, and desserts (a fasting day) at Vicki Gans’ home at 6:00. This is also Vicki’s name day – St. Olga. (7497 W. Mustang Dr. in Ellettsville near the Senior Center – 679-8197)

Outreach Opportunity for the Women at All Saints: We have received an invitation to attend a Ladies Style Show (Christopher Banks Clothing) and Tea at St. Mark’s Methodist Church on July 16th. While there is no fee to attend, a free will offering will be collected to benefit the pre-school for disadvantaged children, sponsored by the Monroe County United Ministries (MCUM), a non-profit charitable agency. We need to make reservations by July 10th. Please email or call Marcia. (Your friends are also welcome.)

            Today’s Epistle and Gospel Readings

Prokeimenon: “Their sound hath gone forth into all the earth.”

Verse: “The heavens declare the glory of God!” Psalm 18:4, 1

Epistle:The Reading from the St. Paul’s Second Epistle to the Corinthians. (11:21-12:9)

BRETHREN, in whatever anyone is bold—I speak foolishly—I am bold also. Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they the seed of Abraham? So am I. Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as one beside himself) I am a better one: in labors more abundant, in stripes above measure, in imprisonments more frequent, in deaths more often. From the Jews I received five times the forty stripes less one. Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep; on frequent journeys, in perils of rivers, in perils of robbers, in perils from my own race, in perils from the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils at sea, in perils among false brethren; in labor and travail, in vigils often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness. Besides those external things, there is that which presses upon me daily, the anxiety for all the churches. Who is weakened that I should not be weakened? Who is caused to stumble that I should not burn? If it is necessary that I should boast, I will boast of the things that concern my infirmity. The God and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ, the One who is blessed for evermore, knows that I do not lie. In Damascus, the governor under Aretas the king guarded the city of the Damascenes, willing to seize me, and through a window I was let down in a basket by the wall, and escaped his hands.

I must boast; though it is not expedient; but I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord. I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago (whether in the body, I do not know, or whether out of the body, I do not know—God knows), who was caught up to the third heaven. And I know that this man (whether in the body or out of the body I do not know—God knows) was caught up into Paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which no one is allowed to utter. On behalf of this one I will boast, but on my own behalf I will not boast, except of my infirmities. For if I would desire to boast, I shall not be foolish, for I shall speak the truth. But I refrain from it, lest anyone should think of me above that which he sees me to be, or hears from me. And to keep me from being exalted above measure through the abundance of revelations, I was given a thorn in the flesh, an angel of Satan to buffet me, to keep me from being exalted above measure. For this thing I beseeched the Lord three times, that it might depart from me. And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for thee, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore will I rather boast in my infirmities, that he power of Christ may rest upon me.

Gospel:The Reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew. (16:13-19)

AT THAT TIME, when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His Disciples, “Who do men say that the Son of man is?” And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father Who is in Heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in Heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in Heaven.”
