Nourishment of the Soul: “All of us have been called to serve God. We do this in our families, our parishes and our secular jobs. We serve God when we serve one another. Our acts of kindness and generosity, our prayers for our loved ones and our enemies, are all offerings to God which He receives from us and uses for the benefit of all mankind.” — His Eminence, Metropolitan JOSEPH

This morning the infant Sadie Sremanak was baptized. Let us rejoice with her parents Jim and Jessica and sister Renna.

Communion: We invite you to receive the Holy Eucharist if you are an Orthodox Christian who has prepared yourself through fasting, prayer, and recent confession.  If you are not Orthodox, or are Orthodox but have not prepared, we invite you to receive a piece of the blessed bread in the wooden bowls held by the altar servers at the front of the church.

Communion Line: The choir goes first in both lines so members may continue ministering through music during communion. Little Lambs Sunday School follows. The ushers then assist each row from front to back. Those in the overflow behind the choir may follow adjacent rows.

Myrrh Bearers’ pitch-in scheduled for Friday, July 11th: All women in the church are invited to share cool summer salads, fruit, and desserts (a fasting day) at Vicki Gans’ home at 6:00.             Today’s Epistle and Gospel Readings

Prokeimenon: “O chant ye unto our God, chant ye.”

Verse: “Clap your hands, all ye nations!” Psalm 46:6, 1

Epistle:The Reading is from St. Paul’s Epistle to the Romans. (6:18-23)

BRETHREN, having been set free from sin, you have become bond-servants of righteousness. I am speaking in human terms, because of the infirmity of your flesh. For just as you once yielded your members as bond-servants to uncleanness and to iniquity for iniquity, so now yield your members as bond-servants to righteousness for holiness.

For when you were bond-servants of sin, you were free from righteousness. What fruit did you have from things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. But now, having been set free from sin and having become bond-servants of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end is life eternal. For the wages of sin is death; but the free gift of God is life eternal in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Gospel:The Reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew. (8:5-13)

AT THAT TIME, as Jesus entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to him, beseeching Him and saying, “Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, in terrible distress.” And Jesus said to him, “I will come and heal him.” But the centurion answered Him, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof; but only say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I am a man under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my slave, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” When Jesus heard him, He marveled, and said to those who followed him, “Truly, I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such faith. I tell you, many will come from east and west and sit at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the Kingdom of Heaven, while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness; there men will weep and gnash their teeth.” And to the centurion Jesus said, “Go; be it done for you as you have believed.” And the servant was healed at that very moment.
