Receiving the Eucharist: We invite you to receive the Holy Eucharist if you are an Orthodox Christian who has prepared yourself through fasting, prayer, and recent confession.  If you are not Orthodox, or are Orthodox but have not prepared, we invite you to receive a piece of the blessed bread in the wooden bowls held by the altar servers at the front of the church.

Style Show and Tea: Women are invited again this year to a fundraiser for Monroe County United Ministries, a charitable group that serves children and families in the county. Sponsored by St. Mark’s United Methodist Women, the event is Wednesday, July 15 at 2 pm. If you intend to go, please tell Marcia so we may send a group RSVP.

Social Hour Table: Parishioners whose last names begin with the letters G-H will prepare the table for social hour. However, any who feel led to contribute are welcome to do so.

The Parish Council meets at noon today in Father’s office.

Today’s Epistle and Gospel Readings                                           

Prokeimenon: “The Lord is my strength and my song.”

Verse: “With chastisement has the Lord chastened me!”  Psalm 117:14, 18

Epistle: The Reading is from Saint Paul’s Epistle to the Romans. (5:1-11)

Brethren, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.  Through Him also we have obtained our access by faith to this grace in which we stand, and we boast in hope of the glory of God.  And not only so, but we also boast in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces patience; and patience produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put to shame, because the love of God has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit which has been given to us.

For while we were still weak, in due season Christ died for the ungodly.  For scarcely for a righteous man will one die, though perhaps for a good man one would even dare to die.  But God shows His own love toward us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.  Much more then, being now justified by His blood, through Him shall we be saved from the wrath.  For if we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, while we were enemies, much more, being reconciled, we will be saved by His life.

Gospel: The Reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew. (6:22-33)

            The Lord said,  “The eye is the lamp of the body.  So, if your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light; but if your eye is evil, your whole body will be full of darkness.  If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!  No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.  You cannot serve God and mammon.  Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life; what you shall eat or what you shall drink; nor about your body, what you shall put on.  Is not the soul more than food, and the body more than clothing?  Look at the birds of heaven: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not of more value than they?  And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit to his stature?  And why are you anxious about clothing?  Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin; yet I tell you, even Solomon himself in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.  But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O men of little faith?  Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek all these things; and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. Brethren, glory and honor and peace to everyone who does good, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek; for there is no respect of persons with God.  For as many as have sinned without the Law will also perish without the Law; and as many as have sinned under the Law will be judged by the Law (for it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God but the doers of the Law are justified.  For when the nations who do not have the Law do by nature the things contained in the Law, these then in spite of not having the Law, are a law to themselves, in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, and their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or perhaps excuse them) in the day when God judges the secrets of persons, according to my gospel, through Jesus Christ.

            At That Time, as Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.  And He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”  Immediately they left their nets and followed Him.  And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and He called them.  Immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.  And He went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the Kingdom and healing every disease and every infirmity among the people.

All Saints Patronal Feast Day – Pitch-In Meal  — Today is a day of celebration, fellowship, and good food.  Meat is being provided. Pitch-in with your favorite side dishes, salads, and desserts. Come prepared to have an enjoyable afternoon both inside and outside.

We welcomed the infant Daniel Peter Ivanitski into the Orthodox Church through Holy Baptism on Saturday.  His parents are Maksym and Olesia; Gala Mullis is godmother.

Epistle: The Reading is from Saint Paul’s Epistle to the Hebrews. (11:33-40;12:1-2a)

Brethren, all the saints through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were made strong, became mighty in war, and turned to flight armies of the aliens.  Women received their dead by resurrection, and others were tortured, not accepting their deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection.  And others suffered mocking and scourging, and even chains and imprisonment.  They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, they were tempted, they were slain with the sword; they went about in skins of sheep and goats, being destitute, afflicted, tormented (of whom the world was not worthy), wandering in deserts and mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.  And all these, having obtained a witness through their faith, did not receive the promise, since God had foreseen something better for us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect.  Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and sin which does so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the Author and Perfecter of our faith.

Gospel: The Reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew. (10:32-33, 37-38; 19: 27-30)

            The Lord said to His disciples, “Everyone who acknowledges Me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven; but whoever denies Me before men, I also will deny before My Father Who is in heaven.  He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who does not take his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me.”

Then Peter said in reply, “Lo, we have left everything and followed Thee.  What then shall we have?”

Jesus said to them, “Truly, I say to you, in the New World, when the Son of Man shall sit on His glorious throne, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.  And every one who has left houses or brother or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My Name’s sake, will receive a hundred fold, and inherit eternal life.  But many that are first will be last, and the last first.”

Dear Church Family,

   I want to thank you for  your cards and calls,  food and flowers and prayers during my recent recovery from surgery.   As many of you know, the third surgery for a fractured femur was unexpected for me.  The Lord is faithful, and I thank Him for His mercy in every situation.  It was a joy to be back in the Liturgy last Sunday.   I look forward  to  being with you as we celebrate Pentecost together.

Thank you again for your gifts and encouragement and prayers.

Today’s Epistle and Gospel Readings                                           

Prokeimenon: “Their sound has gone forth into all the earth.”

Verse: “The heavens declare the glory of God!”  Psalm 18:4,1

Epistle: The Reading is from the Acts of the Holy Apostles. (2:1-11)

When the Day of Pentecost had come, the apostles were all together in one place. And suddenly a sound came from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.  And there appeared to them tongues as of fire, distributed and resting on each one of them.  And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven.  And at the sound the multitude came together, and were bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in his own language.  And they were all amazed and marveled, saying: “Behold, are not all these who are speaking Galileans?  And how is it that we hear, each of us in our own language where we were born?  Parthians and Medes and Elamites and the residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs, we hear them speaking in our own tongues the mighty works of God.”

Gospel: The Reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. John. (7:37-52;8:12)

            On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and proclaimed, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.  He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.'” Now this He said about the Spirit, which those who believed in Him were to receive; for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.  When they heard these words, many of the people said, “This is really the prophet.”  Others said, “This is the Christ.”  But some said, “Is the Christ to come from Galilee? Has not the Scripture said that the Christ is descended from David, and comes from Bethlehem, the village where David was?”  So there was a division among the people over Him.  Some of them wanted to arrest Him, but no one laid hands on Him.  The officers then went back to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, “Why did you not bring Him?”  The officers answered, “No man ever spoke like this man!” The Pharisees answered them, “Are you led astray, you also?  Have any of the authorities or the Pharisees believed in Him?  But this crowd, who do not know the Law, are accursed.”  Nicodemus, who had gone to Him before, and who was one of them, said to them, “Does our Law judge a man without first giving him a hearing and learning what he does?”  They replied, “Are you from Galilee too?  Search and you will see that no prophet is to rise from Galilee.”  Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

When the High One descended, confusing tongues, He divided the nations. And when He distributed the fiery tongues, He called all to one unity.  Wherefore, in unison we glorify the most Holy Spirit.

Instead of “Holy God”, we sing “As many as have been baptized…“

Receiving the Eucharist: We invite you to receive the Holy Eucharist if you are an Orthodox Christian who has prepared yourself through fasting, prayer, and recent confession.  If you are not Orthodox, or are Orthodox but have not prepared, we invite you to receive a piece of the blessed bread in the wooden bowls held by the altar servers at the front of the church.

Social Hour Table: Parishioners whose last names begin with the letters I-Z will prepare the table for social hour. However, any who feel led to contribute are welcome to do so.  Next week is a free-offering Sunday.

Myrrh Bearers meet around 11:50 to elect officers for the year.

In those days, Paul was determined to sail past Ephesus, so that he might not have to spend time in Asia; for he was hastening, if possible, to be at Jerusalem on the Day of Pentecost.  And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus and called to him the priests of the church.  And when they came t him, he said to them: “Take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you bishops, to shepherd the church of the Lord and God, which He purchased with His own blood.  For I know that after my departure ravenous wolves will enter among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves will arise men speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them.  Therefore remain watchful, remembering that for three years I did not cease to admonish every one, night and day with tears.  And now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.  I coveted no one’s silver or gold or apparel.  You yourselves know that these hands ministered to my  necessities, and to those who were with me.  In all things I have shown you that by such laboring we ought to help the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how He Himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.'” And when he had spoken thus, he knelt down on his knees with them all, and prayed.

Gospel: The Reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. John. (17:1-13)

            At That time, Jesus lifted up His eyes to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify Thy Son that the Son may glorify Thee, since Thou hast given Him power over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom Thou hast given Him.  And this is eternal life, that they know Thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ Whom Thou has sent.  I glorified Thee on earth, having accomplished the work which Thou gavest Me to do; and now, Father, glorify Thou Me in Thy own presence with the glory which I had with Thee before the world was made. I have manifested Thy Name to the men whom Thou gavest Me out of the world; Thine they were, and Thou gavest them to Me, and they have kept Thy word.  Now they know that everything that Thou hast given Me is from Thee; for I have given them the words which Thou gavest Me, and they have received them and know in truth that I came from Thee; and they have believed that Thou didst send Me.  I am praying for them; I am not praying for the world but for those whom Thou hast given Me, for they are Thine; all Mine are Thine, and Thine are Mine and I am coming to Thee.  Holy Father, keep them in Thy Name, which Thou hast given Me, that they may be one, even as We are one.  While I was with them, I kept them in Thy Name, which Thou have given Me; I have guarded them, and none of them is lost but the son of perdition, that the scripture might be fulfilled.  But now I am coming to Thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves.”
