Nourishment of the Soul: “All the stars in the heavens could be more easily counted than all the miracles worked on earth by prayer.” — St. Nicholai of Zica

TODAY, Sunday, February 14, Valentine’s Day: SOYO, along with campers and their parents, will sponsor  a social hour fundraiser to help off-set camp expenses. Early Bird camp fees of $700 per child must be paid before March 1st. After that time the fee is $750. Please invest and show your support of our youth with your donation. The kids come back from Antiochian Village Camp energized in the faith, and their zeal is contagious

Pledge forms for 2016.  Have we received your pledge form?.

Ladies of the Church, please gather with the Myrrh Bearers for an evening of food and fun, starting at 6:00 on next Tuesday, February 16th. Look for an e-mail if the forecasted storm might change plans.

News from Erik Wallace: He is now teaching in Oneonta, New York at SUNY Oneonta. He has been offered a postdoc at the University of Connecticut. As you can see, he is busy, but if plans do not change he may be in Bloomington in late summer to share photos of his time in the Middle East.

Receiving the Eucharist: We invite you to receive the Holy Eucharist if you are an Orthodox Christian who has prepared yourself through fasting, prayer, and recent confession.  If you are not Orthodox, or are Orthodox but have not prepared, we invite you to receive a piece of the blessed bread in the wooden bowls held by the altar servers at the front of the church.

Bread Bakers Needed: Have you ever wondered who bakes the Holy Bread? Currently three bakers in the Barrett family donate many hours to bake the majority of the bread for the Eucharist.  We need MORE BAKERS.  If you want to learn, let them know.  A minimum of 9-15 loaves will be used the next 3 weeks in February.  Great Lent and Holy Week  require even more! Your bread can be stored in your home freezer or brought to the church’s freezer.  If you bake fresh bread, it needs to be here on Saturday night. Thank you to our existing and new bakers for using your talents to serve Christ and His Holy Church.

Today’s Epistle and Gospel Readings

Prokeimenon: “Make your vows and pay them to the Lord our God.”

Verse: “God is known in Judaea; His Name is great in Israel!”

Psalm 75:10,1

Epistle: The Reading is from St. Paul’s Second Epistle to the Corinthians.  (6:16-7:1)

Brethren, you are a temple of the living God, even as God has said: “I will dwell in them, and walk among them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.”  “Therefore come out from among them, and be separate,’ says the Lord, ‘and touch nothing unclean; and I will receive you, and I will be a Father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me,’ says the Lord Almighty.”  Having therefore these promises, O beloved ones, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

Gospel: The Reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew. (15:21-28)

At That Time: Jesus went to the district of Tyre and Sidon.  And behold, a Canaanite woman from that region came out and cried, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David; my daughter is severely possessed by a demon.”  But He did not answer her one word.  And His disciples came and begged Him, saying, “Send her away, for she is crying after us.”  He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”  But she came and knelt before Him, saying, “Lord, help me.”  And He answered, “It is not fair to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.”  She said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.”  Then Jesus answered her, “O woman, great is your faith!  Be it done for you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed instantly.

After-Feast of the Presentation of Christ

Parthenios, Bishop of Lampsakos; Venerable Luke of Hellas; New-Martyr George of Crete

We warmly welcome you to All Saints

in the Name of our Lord, God and Savior Jesus Christ!

Nourishment of the Soul:  “Whoever says that it is impossible to be saved with a wife and children is a deceiver. Abraham had a wife and children and three hundred and eighteen servants, and also much gold and silver, and he was called the friend of God! Many servants of the Church have been saved, and many lovers of the desert; many aristocrats, and many soldiers; many craftsmen, and many farm laborers. Be devout towards God and loving towards men, and you will be saved.” –St. Niphon

His Grace Bp ANTHONY: Our beloved bishop expressed his immense joy worshipping with us on Monday. He said that while he should probably feel tired, he actually felt refreshed from his visit.  This is a testament to the welcoming love he felt from our community. I would like to thank everyone who attended and helped to welcome our dear hierarch, and especially those who set up, cleaned up and served in the name of Christ.

House Blessings: Visit the sign-up sheet in the hallway. If no time fits your schedule, email Father Peter Jon. Make sure also that he has your current home address and phone number. There about  3 weeks left of the house blessing season before the Triodion.

  Today’s Epistle and Gospel Readings

Prokeimenon: “The Lord will give strength unto His people.”

Verse: “Bring unto the  Lord, ye sons of God; bring unto the Lord glory and honor!”

Psalm 28:11,1

Epistle: The Reading is from St. Paul’s Second Epistle to the Corinthians.  (6:1-10)

Brethren: since we are fellow workers, we entreat you also not to receive the grace of God in vain (for He says, “At an acceptable season I hearkened  unto thee, and in a day of salvation I helped thee”; behold, now is “the acceptable season”; behold, now is “the day of salvation”), giving no occasion of stumbling in anything, that the ministry is not blamed, but in everything commending ourselves, as ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, in stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors, in vigils, in fasts, in purity, in knowledge, in longsuffering, in kindness, in the Holy Spirit, in love unfeigned, in the word of truth, in the power of God; by the weapons of righteousness on the right hand and on the left, by glory and dishonor, by evil report and good report; as deceivers, and yet true; as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed; as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; a poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing and yet possessing all things.

Gospel: The Reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew. (25:14-30)

The Lord spoke this parable: A man going on a journey called his servants and entrusted to them his property; to one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability.  Then he went away. He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them; and he made five talents more.  So also, he who had the two talents made two talents more.  But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master’s money.  Now after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them.  And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying: “Master, you delivered to me five talents; here I have made five talents more.”  His master said to him, “Well done, good an faithful servant; you have been faithful over a little, I will set you over much; enter into the joy of your master.”  And he also who had the two talents came forward, saying: “Master, you delivered to me two talents; here I have made two talents more.”  His master said to him, “Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a little, I will set   you over much; enter into the joy of your master.”  He also who had received the one talent came forward, saying: “Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not show, and gathering where you did not winnow; so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground.  Here you have what is yours.”  But his master answered him, “You wicked and slothful servant!  You knew that I reap where I have not sowed, and gather where I have not winnowed? Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received what was my own with interest.  So take the talent from him, and give it to him who has the ten talents.  For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have abundance; but from  him who has not, even what he has will be taken away.  And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness; there men will weep and gnash their teeth.”  As Jesus said these things, He cried out: “He who has ears to hear, let him here!”

Prokeimenon: “The Lord will give strength unto His people.”

Verse: “Bring unto the  Lord, ye sons of God; bring unto the Lord glory and honor!”  Psalm 28:11,1

Epistle: The Reading is from St. Paul’s First Epistle to  Timothy.  (4:9-15)

My Child Timothy, faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptance.  For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe.  These things command and teach. Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to those who believe, in word, in manner of life, in love, in spirit, in faith, and in purity.  Till I come, give heed to reading, to exhortation, to teaching.  Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the priests.  Meditate on these things; give yourself wholly to them; that your progress may be manifest to all.

Gospel: The Reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke. (19:1-10)

At That Time, Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through.  And there was a man named Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector, and rich.  And he sought to see Who Jesus was, but could not, on account of the crowd, because he was small of stature.  So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see Jesus, for He was to pass that way.  And when Jesus came to the place, He looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, make haste and come down; for I must stay at your house today.”  So he made haste and came down, and received Him joyfully.  And when they saw it, they all murmured, “He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner.”  And Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I restore it fourfold.”  And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham; for the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

 Resurrectional Apolytikion – Tone 2

When Thou didst submit Thyself unto death, O Thou deathless and immortal One, then Thou didst destroy hell with Thy Godly power.  And when Thou didst raise the dead from beneath the earth, all the powers of Heaven did cry aloud unto Thee; O Christ, Thou giver of life, glory to Thee.

Apolytikion for SS. Cyrus and John –  Tone 5

Since Thou hast given us the miracles of Thy holy Martyrs, Cyrus and John, as an invincible battlement, by their entreaties scatter the counsels of the heathen, O Christ our God, and strengthen the faith of Orthodox Christians, since Thou alone art good and the Lover of mankind.

Kontakion of the Presentation of Christ – Tone 1

Prokeimenon: “O Lord, save Thy people and bless Thine inheritance.”

Verse: “Unto Thee, O Lord, will I cry, O my God! Psalm 27:9,1

Epistle: The Reading is from St. Paul’s First Epistle to  Timothy.  (1:15-17)

My Child Timothy, faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.  But for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first, Jesus Christ might show forth all longsuffering for a pattern to those who should thereafter believe in Him for life eternal.  Now unto the King eternal, incorruptible, invisible, to the only wise God, be honor and glory unto ages of ages. Amen.

Gospel: The Reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke. (18:35-43)

At That Time, as Jesus drew near to Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging; and hearing a multitude going by, he inquired what this meant.  They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.”  And he cried, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”  And those who were in front rebuked him, telling him to be silent; but he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” And Jesus stopped, and commanded him to be brought to Him; and when he came near, Jesus asked him, “What do you want Me to do for you?”  He said, “Lord, let me receive my sight.”  And Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has made you well.”  And immediately he received his sight and followed Him, glorifying God; and all the people, when they saw it gave praise to God.

Resurrectional Apolytikion – Tone 1

While the stone was sealed by the Jews, and the soldiers were guarding Thy most pure body, Thou didst arise on the third day, O Savior, granting life to the world.  For which cause the heavenly powers cried aloud unto Thee, O Giver of Life. Glory to Thy Resurrection, O Christ; Glory to Thy Kingdom,; Glory to Thy Providence, O Thou Who alone art the lover of mankind.

Apolytikion of St Xenia of St. Petersburg – Tone 8

In thee, O wandering stranger, Christ the Lord hath given us an ardent intercessor for our kind.  For having received in thy life sufferings and grief and served God and men with love, thou didst acquire great boldness. Wherefore, we fervently hasten to thee in temptations and grief, crying out from the depths of our hearts: Put not our hope to shame, O Blessed Xenia.
