Food Pantry: A few donors gave abundantly last week, but we could still use some paper goods and frozen foods as well as those foods listed last week. Thank you for your steadfast love for those struggling with hunger.

Receiving the Eucharist: We invite you to receive the Holy Eucharist if you are an Orthodox Christian who has prepared yourself through fasting, prayer, and recent confession. If you are not Orthodox, or are Orthodox but have not prepared, we invite you to receive a piece of the blessed bread in the wooden bowls held by the altar servers at the front of the church.

Dumpster: You will note that our roof has been stripped and there is a large dumpster in the parking lot. Thank you for your patience as our roof is replaced. The work should be complete by next weekend.

There is a Festival Meeting today after Divine Liturgy.
We will assess previous festivals and start planning for the next one on October 6th. Please join Daniel Rigsby (Parish Council Chairman) who will be the festival coordinator this year.

Today’s Epistle and Gospel Readings

Prokeimenon: “Make vows to the Lord thy God and perform them.”
Verse: “In Judah God is known; His Name is great in Israel.” (Psalm 75:11,1)

Epistle: The Reading is from St. Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians. (3:9-17)

Brethren, we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building. According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and another man is building upon it. Let each man take care how he builds upon it. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any one builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay or straw, each man’s work will become manifest; for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work which any man has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire. Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him; for God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.

Gospel: The Reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew. (14:22-34)

At that time, Jesus made the Disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He dismissed the crowds. And after He had dismissed the crowds, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. When evening came, He was there alone, but the Disciples’ boat by this time was many furlongs distant from the land, beaten by the waves; for the wind was against them. And in the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea. But when the Disciples saw Jesus walking on the sea, they were terrified, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear. But immediately He spoke to them, saying, “Take heart, it is I; have no fear.” And Peter answered Him, “Lord, if it is Thee, bid me come to Thee on the water.” He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus; but when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me!” Jesus immediately reached out His hand and caught him, saying to him, “O man of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshiped Him, saying, “Truly, Thou art the Son of God.” And when they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret.

Epistle: The Reading is from St. Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians. (1:10-17)

Brethren, I appeal to you, by the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree and that there be no dissension among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment. For it has been reported to me by Chloe’s people that there is quarreling among you, my brethren. What I mean is that each one of you says, “I belong to Paul,” or “I belong to Apollos,” or “I belong to Cephas,” or “I belong to Christ.” Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispos and Gaius; lest anyone should say that you were baptized in my name. (I did baptize also the household of Stephanas. Beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized anyone else.) For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the Gospel, and not with eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

At that time, when Jesus went ashore he saw a great throng; and he had compassion on them, and healed their sick. When it was evening, the disciples came to Him and said, “This is a lonely place, and the day is now over; send the crowds away to go into the villages and buy food for themselves.” Jesus said, “They need not go away; you give them something to eat.” They said to Him, “We have only five loaves here and two fish.” And He said, “Bring them here to Me.” Then He ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass; and taking the five loaves and the two fish He looked up to Heaven, and blessed, and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces left over. And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children. New Directive from His Eminence Metropolitan JOSEPH regarding announcements/speaking in the church: Only clergy may speak or make announcements from the solea. If any organization or person needs an announcement to be made, he or she must give it to the pastor before the liturgy (we don’t want people walking in and out of the altar during the liturgy) and the pastor will make it on behalf of the person or organization.

Quarter Jar in Social Hall: We have a jar for your donation of quarters to aid Leanne when she does laundry. For those who use a laundromat, you know how having the change available will simplify the process.

Leanne is very pleased, excited, and grateful for all who have contributed to ease her move to the new apartment. (Love in action!)

For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise and walk’? Annual Fourth of July Celebration at All Saints: Beginning at 7:00 on Tuesday evening, July 3rd, we will celebrate America’s independence with a barbecue at All Saints. Fireworks will begin at 9:45. The church will provide meat, and all are encouraged to bring their favorite side dish. Thomas Pryzbyla will oversee setup and clean up.

Receiving the Eucharist: We invite you to receive the Holy Eucharist if you are an Orthodox Christian who has prepared yourself through fasting, prayer, and recent confession. If you are not Orthodox, or are Orthodox but have not prepared, we invite you to receive a piece of the blessed bread in the wooden bowls held by the altar servers at the front of the church.

Coffee Hour: Scheduled contributors this Sunday are those whose last names start with A-Ba; however, your donations are appreciated at all times.

New Directive from His Eminence Metropolitan JOSEPH regarding announcements/speaking in the church: Only clergy may speak or make announcements from the solea. If any organization or person needs an announcement to be made, he or she must give it to the pastor before the liturgy (we don’t want people walking in and out of the altar during the liturgy) and the pastor will make it on behalf of the person or organization.

Quarter Jar in Social Hall: We have a jar for your donation of quarters to aid Leanne when she does laundry. For those who use a laundromat, you know how having the change available will simplify the process.

Blessed are they that mourn… All of us continue to grieve in the wake of the unexpected passing of Nicholas Alexander. Please pray for Nicholas and the entire Alexander family, and watch your email inbox for the date and time of the upcoming funeral service.

Today’s Epistle and Gospel Readings

Prokeimenon: “In the saints that are in His earth hath the Lord been wondrous.”

Epistle: The Reading is from St. Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians. (12:27-13:8)

Brethren, you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. And God has appointed in the Church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, then healers, helpers, administrators, speakers in various kinds of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? But earnestly desire the higher gifts. And I will show you a still more excellent way. If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.

At that time, when Jesus came to the country of the Gergesenes, two demoniacs met Him, coming out of the tombs, so fierce that no one could pass that way. And behold, they cried out, “What have we to do to Thee, O Son of God? Art Thou come here to torment us before the time?” Now a herd of many swine was feeding at some distance from them. And the demons begged Him, “If Thou castest us out, send us away into the herd of swine.” And He said to them, “Go.” So they came out and went into the swine; and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea, and perished in the waters. The herdsmen fled, and going into the city they told everything, and what had happened to the demoniacs. And behold, all the city came out to meet Jesus; and when they saw Him, they begged Him to leave their neighborhood. And getting into a boat He crossed over and came to His own city.
