 Free Items in the hallway: A friend gave me new household items and electronic toddler toys to do with as I saw fit. Visit the table in the hallway and take what you or a friend could use. Receiving the Eucharist: We invite you to receive the Holy Eucharist if you are an Orthodox Christian who has prepared yourself through fasting, prayer, and recent confession.  If you are not Orthodox, or are Orthodox but have not prepared, we invite you to receive a piece of the blessed bread in the wooden bowls held by the altar servers at the front of the church.

Be certain to look at the plans for the future of All Saints that are posted in the social hall.

May 18: After Daily Vespers, Fr. Moses Berry will speak on his Journey to Orthodoxy. He is Dorothy Berry’s father.  We met Dorothy’s mother recently; she will accompany him. A light meal will be served.

Today’s Epistle and Gospel Readings

Prokeimenon: “ The Lord is my strength and my song. ”

Verse: “With chastisement has The Lord  chastened me.” Psalm 117:14,18

Epistle: The Reading is from the Acts of the Holy Apostles. (6:1-7)                        

In those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, the Hellenists murmured against the Hebrews because their widows were neglected in the daily ministry.  And the twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said: “It is not right that we should forsake the word of God to serve tables.  Therefore, brethren, pick out from among you seven men of good report, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint to this duty.  And we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.”  And the saying pleased the whole multitude, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochoros, and Nikanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nikolaos a proselyte of Antioch.  These they set before the apostles, and they prayed and laid their hands upon them.

And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem exceedingly, and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

Gospel: The Reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Mark. (15:43-16:8)

At that time, Joseph of Arimathea, a respected member of the council, who was also himself looking for the Kingdom of God, took courage and went to Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus. And Pilate wondered if He were already dead; and summoning the centurion, he asked him whether Jesus was already dead. And when he learned from the centurion that He was dead, he granted the body to Joseph. And he bought a linen shroud, and taking Him down, wrapped Him in the linen shroud, and laid Him in a tomb, which had been hewn out of the rock; and he rolled a stone against the door of the tomb. Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses saw where He was laid. And when the Sabbath was passed, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices so that they might go and anoint Him. And very early on the first day of the week they went to the tomb when the sun had risen. And they were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the door of the tomb?” And looking up, they saw that the stone was rolled back—it was very large. And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe; and they were amazed. And he said to them, “Do not be amazed; you seek Jesus of Nazareth, Who was crucified. He has risen, He is not here; see the place where they laid Him. But go, tell His Disciples and Peter that He is going before you to Galilee; there you will see Him, as He told you.” And they went out and fled from the tomb; for trembling and astonishment had come upon them; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.

After the Dismissal, we chant the phimi (in Tone Two) in honor of His Eminence, Metropolitan JOSEPH on the occasion of his patronal feast day in the following order:

1) The priest intones the phimi from the beautiful gate.

2) The clergy then chant the phimi from the sanctuary.

3) The choir then chants the phimi from where it stands.

 Deacon Lawrence will serve the Eucharistic Typica this morning.  The service is shorter than a regular Divine Liturgy, but you will hear hymns for Thomas Sunday and the Readings. The order of the service will differ from that of the usual Divine Liturgy as well, with Psalms being read throughout.

Today’s Epistle and Gospel Readings

 Epistle: The Reading is from the First Catholic Epistle of St. John. (1:1-7)

That which was from the beginning, that which we have heard, that which we have seen with our own eyes, that which we beheld, and which our hands handled, concerning the Word of Life – for the Life was manifested, and we have seen it, and testify to it, and proclaim to you the Eternal Life, which was with the Father, and was manifested to us–that which we have seen and heard we proclaim to you, that you also may have communion with us; and indeed our communion is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ.  And we write these things to you, that our joy may be fulfilled.  And this is the proclamation which we have heard from Him and proclaim it to you: that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.  If we say that we have communion with Him and walk in darkness, we lie, and we do not practice the truth; but if we walk in the Light, as He is in the Light, we have communion with one another and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

Gospel: The Reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. John. (20:19-31)

On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the Disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the Disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.” And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.” Now Thomas, one of the Twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other Disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and place my finger in the mark of the nails, and place my hand in His side, I will not believe.” Eight days later, His Disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. The doors were shut, but Jesus came and stood among them, and said, “Peace be with you.” Then He said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see My hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side; do not be faithless, but believing.” Thomas answered Him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen Me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe.” Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the Disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His Name.

 Welcome to the celebration of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ!

 In the liturgies of the Orthodox Church we proclaim that Christ gave Himself over to death on the Cross “For the Life of the World,” and so we invite all creation to celebrate together Christ’s miraculous and life-giving Resurrection from the dead.

 English: Christ is Risen! Truly He is Risen!

Arabic: Al Maseeh Qam! Haqan Qam!

Greek: Khristos Anesti! Alithos Anesti!

Romanian: Cristos a Inviat! Adeverat a Inviat!

Russian: Kristos Voskresey! Voyistino Voskresey!

 Nourishment of the Soul: “We were buried therefore with Him by baptism into death so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in the newness of life.”  Romans 6:4

Enclosed in the printed bulletin is the Pascha letter from His Grace, Bp ANTHONY. Bishop of Toledo and the Midwest.

Those in the overflow may follow adjacent rows.

Following this Evening’s service, be sure to join us as we break the fast together. Food has been prepared, but we also appreciate donations. Catch a glimpse into the future of All Saints when you are in the social hall both Saturday and Sunday!

 TOMORROW at NOON

 During the Sunday Agape Service, the Good News of the Resurrection from St. John 20:19-28 will be read in many languages. Following the service we will celebrate the Holy Feast with a procession to the Empty Tomb, an egg hunt for the children, and with delicious food prepared by our parishioners.  For the safety of guests, of our elderly, and of all children, we ask there be no running and chase games in the building. Let’s help our children be safe and play on the lawn and not in the busy parking lot.

 Today’s Epistle and Gospel Readings 

Prokeimenon: “ Blessed is He Who cometh in the Name of the Lord.”

Verse: ” O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy endures forever!”  Psalm 117:25,1

Epistle: The Reading is from St. Paul’s Epistle to the Philippians. (4:4-9)

Brethren, rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice! Let your forbearance be known to all people.  The Lord is at hand. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your petitions be made known to God.  And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  Finally, Brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about these things.  The things which you both learned and received, and heard and saw in me, these things do; and the God of Peace will be with you.

Gospel: The Reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. John. (12:1-18)

Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus who had died was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. There they made Him a supper; Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those at table with Him. Mary took a pound of costly ointment of pure nard and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment. But Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, one of His Disciples (he who was to betray Jesus), said, “Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?” This he said, not because he cared for the poor but because he was a thief, and as he had the moneybox he used to take what was put into it. Jesus said, “Let her alone, let her keep it for the day of My burial. The poor you always have with you, but you do not always have Me.” When the great crowd of the Jews learned that He was there, they came, not only on account of Jesus but also to see Lazarus, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. So the chief priests planned to put Lazarus also to death, because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and believing in Jesus. The next day a great crowd who had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying, “Hosanna! Blessed is He Who cometh in the Name of the Lord, the King of Israel!” And Jesus found a young donkey and sat upon it; as it is written, “Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt!” His Disciples did not understand this at first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that this had been written of Him and had been done to Him. The crowd that had been with Jesus when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead bore witness. The reason why the crowd went to meet Jesus was that they heard He had done this sign.

Receiving the Eucharist: We invite you to receive the Holy Eucharist if you are an Orthodox Christian who has prepared yourself through fasting, prayer, and recent confession.  If you are not Orthodox, or are Orthodox but have not prepared, we invite you to receive a piece of the blessed bread in the wooden bowls held by the altar servers at the front of the church.

Tonight,  the 5pm Lenten Vespers will be at Holy Apostles  in Indy with Father Philip Lashbrook as homilist.  A fellowship hour follows.

 

Work Detail set for  Lazarus  Saturday at Noon . Please plan to come to clean the outside and inside and  to decorate for Palm Sunday. A light meal will be provided. All skill levels can be used on our annual clean up day. (Attached is a list of chores.)

Brethren, Christ having appeared as a High Priest of the good things to come, through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation; neither through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, entered in once for all into the holy place, having found eternal redemption. For if the sprinkling of defiled persons with the blood of bulls and goats and with the ashes of a heifer sanctifies for the purification of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, purify your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

Gospel: The Reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Mark. (10:32-45)

At that time, Jesus took His twelve Disciples, and began to tell them what was to happen to Him, saying, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem. CLEANING GUIDE FOR LAZARUS SATURDAY

Can all of this be done?  One never knows…

CLEANING SUPPLIES

-Cleaning materials and paper products are found in the storage room or UNDER SINK.

-Keys to towel cabinets are in the drawer by the Entry door in the kitchen.

–Please use cloths to clean, not paper towels whenever possible.

-Either take cloths home or leave them for Marcia in the wet sink. Bag them if possible.

-Mops and brooms are by the freezers or in the wet sink.

-Leave ‘needed items for Easter on frig white board.’  Perhaps even donate them.

-Plastic bags are inside kitchen storage room, lower left of the door.

-Orange bags must be used for Dillman Road disposal.

EVERYWHERE

-Look for webs high and low! They reappear almost as soon as you wipe them down.

-Wet wipe all baseboards.

-Vacuum all areas

-Wash windows inside and out.

ELECTRICAL ROOM

-Remove clutter from the floor if it is yours!

-Some things can go to the barn, others upstairs.

KITCHEN

-Wet mop the floor and dry it.

-Remove trash to dumpster – must be bagged.

–Use Orange bags and take to West Dillman site. Otherwise, our trash will overflow during Holy Week.

-Wipe counter tops, leaving no food present.

–Recycle when possible—remove to W. Dillman

-Any cardboard left in wet sink must be bagged or recycled (W. Dillman site available Saturday)

-Make the storage room neat.

-Discuss removing the dirty brown rug or replacing it or cleaning it…It has stuck to the floor.  A spatula will scrap off the old rubber backing from the floor.  Once the backing is removed, it will never lie safely!

SOCIAL HALL

-Use Brush to scrub tables.

-Dry tables

-Wash chairs and dry

-Vacuum. (Sweepers are in the hall closet , closest to the offices –-Dust the bookstore/library.

RESTROOMS

-Replace paper products (found under the shelf in Ladies restroom and in Men’s handicap stall)

-Clean – disinfect stools.

-Wipe sinks and fixtures including safety bar.

-Wet mop and dry with large towel to avoid puddling (Do not try to strip wax on this day.)

–Remove all trash.

ALTAR (Altar servers with Fr.’s oversight)

-Vacuum, dust, remove webs, clean windows

-Remove trash and straighten.

-Reorganize preparation room and locate shroud and white cloths and press them.

-Do you have one new 32” candle for Pascha? Yes

-BRASS WARE (clean and polish altar brass. Use gloves!)

-Locate black cloth for memorial table used on Friday. Press it.

NAVE

-Dust, remembering iconostasis

-Wipe chairs.

-Vacuum.

-Organize candle prayer boxes and add new sand – white play sand purchased at Lowes.

-Water plants.

-Carefully wipe smeared icons either with mild vinegar/water solution with soft cloth (By glancing to the side once can see if there are prints that need wiping—Careful! only  prints, not painted ones. (Other icons are in halls, nursery, social hall)

HALLWAY-OFFICES

-Webs!

-Dust

-Clean all door glass and panels.

-Vacuum.

-Whisk any dust from shelves in hallway.

NURSERY

-Wipe & disinfect tables.

-Remove trash

-Wash chalkboard with water only, leaving pertinent writing.

-Vacuum

OUTSIDE

-Add new mulch to planting areas, remembering those by the road.

-Remove all weeds from beds AND bag or deposit in remote, wooded areas to recycle.

-Pick up trash along road—cut weeds. Also in parking lot.

-Wash molded mailbox.

-Mow – Don takes care of this.

–Chain saw down half-fallen trees.

-Stack wood near gazebo or give it away!

-Shovel out trash and debris INSIDE dumpster and AROUND dumpster.

-Pick up fallen limbs near road and cemetery and IN the cemetery.

–Cut all ‘pampas grass’ before the new sprouts.

PALM SUNDAY DECORATIONS (Father Peter will direct after cleanup)

-Place palms, willows and flowers around the Nave

-Place some willows or palms outside of Narthex, weather permitting.

Tape inside Marcia’s office/white stack drawers.

LOCATE AND PLAN TO ERECT THE ‘CHRIST IS RISEN’ BANNER FOR PASCHA if Fr. Peter Jon okays.  The sign may still look good!
