Orthodox Christians for Life: Patricia Finchum,has been appointed by Fr. Peter Jon to organize a Bloomington chapter of Orthodox Christians for Life, the national pan-Orthodox pro-life group. The first action of this group will be prayer.  An akathist for the Protection of the Theotokos will be prayed on the last Friday of each month at 6pm, beginning this month. All are invited and encouraged to come and pray together for the protection of life in the womb and for the parents considering (or suffering from past) abortion.

Receiving the Eucharist: We invite you to receive the Holy Eucharist if you are an Orthodox Christian who has prepared yourself through fasting, prayer, and recent confession.  If you are not Orthodox, or are Orthodox but have not prepared, we invite you to receive a piece of the blessed bread in the wooden bowls held by the altar servers at the front of the church.

Pitch-In Meal Next Sunday: Next Saturday and Sunday, Dn. Lucas, Stacey, Theodore and Genevieve will be our guests along with Reader Tikhon Wallace.  Let us welcome with joy these who spent so many years as part of the All Saints family, serving in friendship and in love.

Firewood Available: Recently an arborist cut dead trees near the gazebo, pond, and road, and in the grove. If you or a friend need wood for your fireplace or campfires, help yourself to a trunk full or truck load.

They Don’t Vacation: Our parish operating expenses do not take the summer off;  so please do your best to keep your tithes and offerings current, and add a little extra if you have been blessed to do so. Thank you.

     Today’s Epistle and Gospel Readings

 Prokeimenon: “How magnified are Thy works, O Lord! In Wisdom hast Thou made them all.”

 Epistle: The Reading from  St. Paul’s Epistle to the Romans.   (10:1-10)

Brethren, my heart’s desire and my supplication to God is for Israel, that they may be saved.  For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.  For being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, they did not submit to the righteousness of God.  For Christ is the fulfillment of the Law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

For Moses describes the righteousness that is from the Law, that “the one who does those things shall live by them.”  But of the righteousness that is from faith, he says thus: “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who shall ascend into heaven?’ (That is, to bring Christ down) or, ‘Who shall descend into the abyss?’ (That is, to bring Christ up from the dead).” But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth, and in your heart,” that is, the word of faith which we preach; because if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  For with the heart there is the belief to righteousness, and with the mouth, the confession to salvation.

Gospel: The Reading is from the Holy Gospel according to  St. Matthew. (8:28-9:1)

 At that time, when Jesus came to the country of the Gergesenes, two demoniacs met Him, coming out of the tombs, so fierce that no one could pass that way. And behold, they cried out, “What have we to do to Thee, O Son of God?  Art Thou come here to torment us before the time?” Now a herd of many swine was feeding at some distance from them. And the demons begged Him, “If Thou castest us out, send us away into the herd of swine.” And He said to them, “Go.” So they came out and went into the swine; and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea, and perished in the waters. The herdsmen fled, and going into the city they told everything, and what had happened to the demoniacs. Juliana Elizabeth B was born July 12th at 10:30 a.m.  Little brother Paul and Grandparents Robert and Nina R are overjoyed. Glory to God for precious newborns.

 My Child Timothy, be strengthened in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things which you have heard from me through many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.  Suffer hardship as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.  No soldier on service entangles himself in the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enrolled him as a soldier.  And if someone also contends in the games, he is not crowned, unless he has contended lawfully.  The husbandman who labors must be the first to partake of the fruits.  Consider what I say; and may the Lord grant you understanding in all things.

Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, of the seed of David, according to my gospel, in which I suffer hardships and even bonds, as a criminal; but the word of God is not bound.  Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.

The Lord said, “The eye is the lamp of the body.  So, if your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light; but if your eye is evil, your whole body will be full of darkness.  If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!  No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.  You cannot serve God and mammon.  Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink; nor about your body, what you shall put on.  Is not the soul more than food, and the body more than clothing?  Look at the birds of heaven: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not of more value than they?  And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit to his stature?  And why are you anxious about clothing?  Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin; yet I tell you, even Solomon himself in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.  But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O men of little faith?  Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’  For the Gentiles seek all these things; and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.  But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well.”

Annual July 4th Parish Picnic: We will light the grill at 6:00 p.m., with the church providing meats to go with your side dishes.  A live band will take the stage around 7:00 with square dancing, fun, and lawn games.  (In case of inclement weather, dancing and music will move to the fellowship hall.) As the sky darkens (around 9:30), the fireworks begin. Last year was an awesome celebration – we expect even more this year.  Bring a friend or two!

 Receiving the Eucharist: We invite you to receive the Holy Eucharist if you are an Orthodox Christian who has prepared yourself through fasting, prayer, and recent confession.  If you are not Orthodox, or are Orthodox but have not prepared, we invite you to receive a piece of the blessed bread in the wooden bowls held by the altar servers at the front of the church.

Campers Lilly Blair and Ava Rigsby and camp volunteer Jennifer Rigsby have returned home. Ask them about their time at Antiochian Village. Three Alexander kids left today for two weeks at AV.

 Epistle: The Reading is from Saint Paul’s Epistle to the Romans. (2:10-16)

Brethren, glory and honor and peace to everyone who does good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek; for there is no respect of persons with God.  For as many as have sinned without the Law will also perish without the Law; and as many as have sinned under the Law will be judged by the Law (for it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God but the doers  of the Law are justified. For when the nations who do not have the Law do by nature the things contained in the Law, these then, in spite of not having the Law, are a law to themselves, in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, and their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or perhaps excuse them) in the day when God judges the secrets of persons, according to my gospel, through Jesus Christ.

At that time, as Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.  And He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”  Immediately they left their nets and followed Him.  And going on from there He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and He called them.  Immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.  And He went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the Kingdom and healing every disease and every infirmity among the people.

Today, June 26 — Join together with the All Saints family on our All Saints Feast Day. Bring your favorite entrees, salads, and desserts to share with everyone.  If you want to give a short presentation about a favorite saint, please contact Charles Coats. 

 A Special Offering will be received at the end of the Service: This is to support the current nine mission parishes in the Diocese and to provide funds to plant new ones. Checks payable to All Saints with Midwest Mission Council in the memo line will be gathered; then we will send one check from our parish. Not so long ago we were a mission parish!

 Epistle: The Reading is from Saint Paul’s Epistle to the Hebrews. (11:33-12:2)

 Brethren, all the saints through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were made strong , became mighty in war, and turned to flight armies of the aliens.

Women received their dead by resurrection, and other were tortured, not accepting their deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection. And others suffered mocking and scourging, and even chains and imprisonment.  They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, they were tempted, they were slain with the sword; they went about in skins of sheep and goats, being destitute, afflicted, tormented (of whom the world was not worthy), wandering in deserts and mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.

And all these, having obtained a witness through their faith, did not receive the promise, since God had foreseen something better for us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect.  Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which does so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the Author and Perfecter of our faith.

Gospel: The Reading is from the Holy Gospel according to  St. Matthew. (10:32-33, 37-38; 19:27-30)

The Lord said to His disciples, “Everyone who acknowledges Me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father Who is in heaven; but whoever denies Me before men, I also will deny before My Father Who is in heaven.  He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who does not take his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me.”  Then Peter said in reply, “Lo, we have left everything and followed Thee.  What then shall we have?”  Jesus said to them, “Truly, I say to you, in the New World, when the Son of Man shall sit on His glorious throne, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.  And every one who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My Name’s sake, will receive a hundred fold, and inherit eternal life.  But many that are first will be last, and the last first.”
