We are honored to share exciting news with our parish family and friends — a feature-length documentary about All Saints Orthodox Church is complete and preparing for its 2024–2025 film festival run!
A Story 40 Years in the Making
What began as a short parish history film has become a full 90-minute documentary titled All Saints: The Journey of Orthodoxy in Bloomington, Indiana, written and directed by Chris M. Johnston of Truthful Studio.
The film traces our community’s humble beginnings and celebrates how people of Greek, Russian, Syrian, Lebanese, Yugoslavian, Romanian, and other Orthodox backgrounds came together through one faith and one doctrine — forming the vibrant, multi-ethnic parish we know today.
From a Simple Idea to a Major Project
In 2019, Fr. Peter Jon Gillquist met with filmmaker Chris Johnston to discuss documenting the parish’s story. What was first imagined as a 10-minute video quickly grew into something much larger. After only four days of filming, it was clear that the decades of faith, fellowship, and perseverance could not be contained in a short piece.
Over the next four years, Johnston worked closely with parish members, archivists, and co-producer Amal Hanania, whose family helped found the parish. Together, they gathered interviews, newsletters, photos, and memories — weaving them into a cinematic reflection of how God has worked through our church.
A Labor of Love and Faith
This documentary was created with deep gratitude for the clergy, families, and faithful who built and sustained All Saints through the years. Johnston shares that the project became a personal journey of faith — a reminder that God can take something small and use it to inspire others.
“I prayerfully took on this All Saints Documentary as a demonstration to myself that I can execute a story in excellence no matter the circumstances. I’m so excited to see how God will use the All Saints story for His glory.” — Chris M. Johnston, Director
