  Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost

Martyr Eutyches, disciple of John the Theologian; New Hieromartyr Cosmas Aitolos, equal-to the-Apostles and evangelizer of southern Albania

Thought for Today: “The demons in their malice revive and rekindle the unclean passions within us, causing them to increase and multiply. But the visitation of the divine Logos, especially when accompanied by our tears, dissolves and kills the passions, even those that are inveterate.” – St. John of Karpathos

Ressurectional Apolytikion – Tone 2

When Thou didst submit Thyself unto death, O Thou deathless and immortal One, then Thou didst destroy hades with Thy Godly power. And when Thou didst raise the dead from beneath the earth, all the powers of Heaven did cry aloud unto Thee: O Christ, Thou giver of life, glory to Thee.

Kontakion of the Nativity of the Theotokos – Tone 4

By thy holy nativity, O pure one, Joachim and Anna were delivered from the reproach of barrenness; and Adam and Eve were delivered from the corruption of death; thy people do celebrate it, having been saved from the stain of iniquity, crying unto thee: The barren doth give birth to the Theotokos, who nourisheth our life.

Receiving the Eucharist: Receiving Holy Communion is our most intimate collective moment with God each week. Standing reflectively in silence or singing along with the communion hymns are the best ways to honor God in these holy moments. We invite you to receive the Holy Eucharist if you are an Orthodox Christian who has prepared yourself through fasting, prayer, and recent confession.  If you are not Orthodox, or are Orthodox but have not prepared, we invite you to receive a piece of blessed bread in the wooden bowls held by the altar servers at the front of the church.

EPISTLE and GOSPEL READINGS

The Epistle

The Lord is my strength and my song. The Lord has chastened me sorely.

The Reading from the First Epistle of St. Paul to the Corinthians. (9:2-12)

Brethren, you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord. This is my defense to those who would examine me. Do we not have the right to our food and drink? Do we not have the right to be accompanied by a wife, as the other apostles and the brothers of the Lord and Cephas? Or is it only Barnabas and I who have no right to refrain from working for a living? Who serves as a soldier at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard without eating any of its fruit? Who tends a flock without getting some of the milk? Do I say this on human authority? Does not the law say the same? For it is written in the Law of Moses, “You shall not muzzle an ox when it is treading out the grain.” Is it for oxen that God is concerned? Does he not speak entirely for our sake? It was written for our sake, because the plowman should plow in hope and the thresher thresh in hope of a share in the crop. If we have sown spiritual good among you, is it too much if we reap your material benefits? If others share this rightful claim upon you, do not we still more? Nevertheless, we have not made use of this right, but we endure anything rather than put an obstacle in the way of the Gospel of Christ.

The Gospel

The Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew. (17:14-23)

At that timea man came up to Jesus and kneeling before Him said, “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic, and he suffers terribly; for often he falls into the fire, and often into the water.  And I brought him to Thy disciples, and they could not heal him.”  And Jesus answered, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long am I to be with you?  How long am I to bear with you?  Bring him here to me.”  And Jesus rebuked him, and the demon came out of him, and the boy was cured instantly.  Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?”  Jesus said to them, “Because you have no faith.  For truly, I say to you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.  This kind never comes out except by prayer and fasting.” As they were traveling together through Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of man is to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill Him, and He will rise on the third day.”

Online donationsDonations through our website have changed, making recurring weekly and monthly donations possible. I have noticed that only one location selection is allowed for a transaction. For now, if you would like your donation to be divided into different locations (Benevolence, Temple, Cemetery, Missions, etc.) please send Nina an email at alsntssec@bluemarble.net.

How “Number of Recurs” Works

Enter 0 if you want your donation to continue automatically until you cancel it.

Enter 1 if you want your donation to happen now and one more time on the next scheduled date.

Enter 2 or higher if you want it to happen now and that many more times afterward.

Example: If you choose monthly and enter 3, your card will be charged today, then once a month for 3 more months, and then stop.

If it is a one-time donation, you would just leave the recurring box open, or unchecked.

Donations to the church are being made online at www.allsaintsbloomington.org and by U.S mailMany thanks to all who continue supporting All Saints.
