Holy Unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian of Asia

Theodota, the Unmercenaries’ mother; Venerable-Martyr James and His Disciples James the Deacon and Dionysios of Prodromou Skete on Athos; Venerable David of Evia in Greece

At All Saints, we warmly welcome our visitors as honored guests.

Nourishment of the Soul: “See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:15-18

Thank You: Don and Dee were truly surprised and blessed by all who travelled to Mitchell on a rainy Saturday to warm their hearts with love at their Anniversary party. They were reminded again of how grateful they are to be part of this loving parish.

Orthodoxy 101 continues on Wednesday, November 4th after Daily Vespers with Fr. Peter Jon presenting the topic: “Orthodoxy and the Just War Theory.”

Newborn in the Parish: Gabriella and Matthew Crandall celebrate the birth of Ezekiel Daniel on October 27th. He is welcomed into the family by brothers Braylan and Wyatt and sisters Kiya and Laura.

Again this year, All Saints will support the Thanksgiving Basket Outreach at Backstreet Missions by collecting  250 dry turkey gravy mixes by the second week in November. Currently there are 20 so we’ve a long way to go before November 11th when they are taken to Agape House. Place your contribution in baskets located in the narthex and in the hallway. You may also make a cash donation of money for the purchase of the mixes.

Receiving the Eucharist: We invite you to receive the Holy Eucharist if you are an Orthodox Christian who has prepared yourself through fasting, prayer, and recent confession.  If you are not Orthodox, or are Orthodox but have not prepared, we invite you to receive a piece of the blessed bread in the wooden bowls held by the altar servers at the front of the church.

The Annual November Business Meeting is next Sunday, November 8th. This is a time set aside to elect new members to the Parish Council, to review the past year, and to look forward to the future. Charles and Jeff will be contacting members for possible placement on the ballot for parish council. If you have a desire to serve, contact them or Father Peter Jon if you are 18 or older and have been a tithing member of All Saints for one year or more.

  • The Annual Thanksgiving Day meal needs a coordinator this year. Are you available to plan this annual event scheduled for November 26? The usual coordinators are either ill or travelling!

Today’s Epistle and Gospel Readings

Prokeimenon: “To the Saints that are in His earth, the Lord has wrought wonders.”

Verse: “I have foreseen the Lord before me at all times!”  Psalm 15:2,8

Epistle: The Reading is from Saint Paul’s First Epistle to the Corinthians. (12:27-13:8)

Brethren, you are the body of Christ, and severally members of it.  And God has these in the church, first apostles; second prophets; third teachers; then powers; then gifts of healings, for relief-workers, for administrators, and for speakers in diverse tongues.  Are all apostles?  Are all prophets?  Are all teachers? Are all workers of powers? Do all have the gifts of healings?  Do all speak with tongues?  Do all interpret?  But earnestly desire the best gifts.  And moreover I will show you a most excellent way.

If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become a sounding brass, or a clanging cymbal.  And if I have prophetic powers, and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.  And if I give away all my possessions for the nourishment of others, and if I give up my body to be burned that I may boast, but have not love, it profits me nothing.  Love suffers long, and is kind; love does not envy; love does not show off, and does not puff up; it does not behave unseemly; it does not seek its own; it is not easily provoked; it does not think evil; it does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; it bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things.  Love never fails.

Gospel: The Reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke. (16:19-31)

The Lord said, “There was a rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day.  And at his gate lay a poor man named Lazarus, full of sores, who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man’s table; moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.  The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom.  The rich man also died and was buried; and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes, and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus in his bosom.  And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy upon me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am in anguish in this flame.’  But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner evil things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish.  And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.’  And he said, ‘Then I beg you, Father, to send him to  my father’s house, for I have five brother, so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment.’  But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.’ and he said, ‘No, Father Abraham; but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’  He said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.'”

Divine Liturgy Variables

Resurrectional Apolytikion – Tone 5

Let us believers praise and worship the Word; co-eternal with the Father and the Spirit, born of the Virgin for our salvation. For, He took pleasure in ascending the Cross in the flesh to suffer death; and to raise the dead by His glorious Resurrection.

Apolytikion of SS. Cosmas and Damian – Tone 8

O ye silver-hating, wonderworking saints, Cosmas and Damian, visit our sicknesses.  Freely ye received, freely give unto us.

Kontakion for Ordinary Sundays – Tone 2

O Undisputed intercessor of Christians, O Mediatrix who is unrejected by the Creator; turn not away from the voice of our petitions, though we be sinners.  Come to us with aid in time, who cry unto thee in faith, for thou art good. Hasten to us with intercessions, O Theotokos, who didst ever intercede for those who honor thee.
