Sunday of the Pharisee and Publican
After-feast of Presentation (Meeting) of Christ

We commemorate today Martyr Agatha of Sicily; Polyeuktos, patriarch of Constantinople; New-martyr Anthony of Athens; Venerable Theodosios of Scopelos; repose of Theodosios, archbishop of Chernigov.

Visitors, we welcome you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Nourishment for the Soul: "Are you rich? Display much bountifulness! Have you become poor? Show much endurance and patience! For neither is wealth an evil, nor poverty in itself; but these things, either of them, become so according to the free choice of those who make use of them."  St. John Chrysostom

Communion: We invite you to receive the Holy Eucharist if you are an Orthodox Christian who has prepared yourself through fasting and prayer.  If you are not Orthodox, or are Orthodox but have not prepared, we invite you to receive a piece of the blessed bread in the baskets held by the altar servers at the front of the church.

Order of the Communion line: The choir goes first on the left with the small children and adults in the Little Lambs Sunday School approaching the cup from the right.  The ushers then assist each row from front to back.  Those seated in the over-flow may follow the adjacent row or the end of the line.

Catechism Classes follow the evening service each Wednesday in February.  Everyone is invited.

House Blessings continue until Great Lent begins February 27th.  Look for the sign-up sheet in the hall or contact Fr. Peter by e-mail or by cell phone.

Camp registration has begun! Our church usually signs up for session two.  At this time we know of two who are going. Please let us know if you plan on attending.   http://antiochianvillage.org/center.html  Amanda Alexander

Today’s Epistle and Gospel Readings

Prokeimenon: “Make your vows and pay them to the Lord our God”
Verse: “God is known in Judea; His Name is great in Israel.”  Psalm 75:10, 1

Epistle: The Reading is from St. Paul’s Second Epistle to St. Timothy. 3:10-15
My Child Timothy, you have followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, patience, persecutions, sufferings, what things befell me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra.  What persecutions I endured!  And out of them all, the Lord delivered me.  Indeed all who would live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.  But people who are wicked and deceivers will proceed from worse to worse, deceiving and being deceived.  But as for you, continue in the things which you have learned and have been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and how from infancy you have known the sacred temple writings which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

Gospel:  The Reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke. 18:10-14

The Lord spoke this parable: “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax colle

Epistle: The Reading is from St. Paul’s Second Epistle to the Corinthians. 6:16-7:1

Brethren, you are a temple of the living God; even as God has said: “I will dwell in them and walk among them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.”  “’Therefore come out from among them, and be separate,’ says the Lord, ‘and touch nothing unclean; and I will receive you, and I will be a Father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me,’ says the Lord Almighty.”  Having therefore these promises, O beloved ones, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

Gospel:  The Reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew. 15:21-28

At that time, Jesus went to the district of Tyre and Sidon. And behold, a Canaanite woman from that region came out and cried, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David; my daughter is severely possessed by a demon.” But He did not answer her a word. And His disciples came and begged him, saying, “Send her away, for she is crying after us.” He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” But she came and knelt before Him, saying, “Lord, help me.” And He answered, “It is not fair to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” She said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.” Then Jesus answered her, “O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed instantly.
